Are you struggling with Plantar Fasciitis?
An early morning on the island makes great weather for jogging and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, a common patient question we get is how to treat plantar fasciitis. Symptoms can be most common in spring and summer because many tend to wear unsupportive shoes such as flimsy flip-flops and others increase their daily activities. This includes excessive pronation, running on hard surfaces, wearing worn-out shoes, and wearing high heels
“If you have persistent pain and aggravation with your heel or foot, it’s time to seek help. Physical therapy can have some amazing results for Plantar Fasciitis.”
What is plantar fascia?
The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that connects the top of the foot to the bottom of our heel. It acts as a spring helping to cushion our foot as we load and unload our foot. When we walk too frequently, or perhaps start a running program and hit too hard, gain weight, or change into unsupported shoes, your plantar fascia can get irritated.

Here are some quick tips for Plantar Fasciitis:
-
Check your shoes.
Do they need to be replaced? Do we need more supportive shoe? Do we need to get a custom orthotic or semi custom orthotic put into foot to give a little bit of support to that plantar fascia? -
Check for inflammation.
If the area becomes inflamed, you can apply an ice massage and try doing some light stretching. A slant board can be helpful as well. -
Seek Professional Treatment.
